Description: Advantage II for Dogs uses the same two-ingredient system as the cat formula — imidacloprid to kill adult fleas through contact and pyriproxyfen to stop flea eggs and larvae from maturing — sized and dosed specifically for canine weight ranges from small dogs (3–10 lbs) up through extra-large dogs (over 55 lbs). Applied to three or four spots along the back from shoulders to tail base, it starts killing fleas within 12 hours and continues working for 30 days, and is also labeled to treat, prevent, and control lice infestations, a detail not every flea topical addresses. One important distinction from Frontline or K9 Advantix: Advantage II does not kill ticks, so in regions with meaningful tick exposure, many veterinarians recommend pairing it with a separate tick-specific product like a Preventic collar rather than relying on Advantage II alone for full parasite coverage. It's sold over-the-counter with no prescription required, and dogs can generally return to normal activity — swimming, playing outside — once the application site is fully dry. As with the cat version, this product is formulated exclusively for dogs and should never be applied to cats, since the concentrations and ratios are calibrated differently between the two species' formulas.
